Fairsend for law firms

Send draft contracts, pleadings and files encrypted to clients, with proof of retrieval.

The situation

Pleadings, draft contracts, powers of attorney and file inspections are subject to professional confidentiality and are often too large for an email attachment. If an attachment goes to the wrong address, it cannot be retrieved. Shares in cloud folders often stay open longer than necessary. At the same time, it should be traceable when a client actually retrieved the documents.

How Fairsend helps

Proof of Delivery

You see when your transfer was downloaded. After the complete download, the time, recipient and the SHA-256 checksums of the files are stored as a verification value.

Password protection for highly confidential documents from Premium

Protect a transfer with a password that you share separately from the link.

Recipient code by email from Premium

The client confirms their address before the download with a code sent to that address. A forwarded link is then not enough to download.

Four-eyes approval from Team

A second person in the team approves the transfer before it is delivered. This helps with pleadings that should be checked once more before sending.

Outlook add-in from Team

You upload files directly from Outlook, take over existing attachments and insert the download link into the email.

Custom expiry from Premium

You decide how long the link stays valid. After that, the files are deleted automatically.

Example use: Secure Inbox

Clients upload documents with a case reference through your law firm website. In the inbox you find every submission by case reference, name or sender.

Suitable plan

Team

€49.00 / month

or €490.00 per year

  • Up to 100 GB per transfer
  • Available for up to 365 days

Team includes four-eyes approval, an audit log, the Outlook add-in and several seats for the firm.

Working as a team

You create a team, invite colleagues by email and assign roles. Owners and admins see all team transfers and can make password protection, recipient code or four-eyes approval mandatory for the whole firm. The audit log records security-relevant actions in the team.

For details on how encryption, storage and deletion work, see the Security page.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fairsend replace the special electronic lawyers' mailbox (beA)?

No. Fairsend is a file sending service. For communication with courts, keep using the channels intended for it, such as the beA, the secure electronic mailbox for German lawyers. Fairsend is meant for exchange with clients and partners, for example for large documents.

How do I pass the password on to clients?

Ideally through a different channel than the link, for example by phone or at an appointment. Password protection is available from Premium. A lost password cannot be restored, and you then send the documents again.

What does the proof of delivery show?

It shows when which recipient completed the download, from which IP address, together with the SHA-256 checksums of the files. This is a technical record. How it is to be assessed in an individual case is for you to judge.

Who may approve under four-eyes approval?

Owners and admins of the team may approve, but not the sender themselves. Approval is only possible when sending by email, not with a plain link.

Is the Free plan enough for individual transfers?

For a single transfer to one recipient, yes. On the Free plan, a transfer is available for one complete download, after which the files are deleted. Password protection and custom expiry periods are available from Premium.

How do clients send me documents?

You create an upload link and send it to the client. They upload their files encrypted and need no account for it. Each upload link works once. From Premium, you protect it with a password.

Do approval and recipient code also apply in the Outlook add-in?

No. The add-in inserts a download link into your email. Four-eyes approval and recipient code apply when sending by email through Fairsend. You can also set a password in the add-in.
